Before - Well, kind of before.  Obviously I'd messed around with the island a bit.  But though the cabinet doors are made of actual wood, the sides of the cabinets - and this island - are some kind of shiny slick particle board-ish crap, and brush marks were a real problem. During - So I've done all the other cabinets the same cheery red, but I'm just not happy with the damn island, so... After - I decided to do the sides of the island in a mottled sponge-painted effect - pale yellow base, another yellow sponged on, finished with a tea stain sponged on.  It actually looks much nicer in person. I swear.
