Gone, too, is the repulsive, pink, cigarette-burned living room carpeting that's plagued me for four and a half long years! This is what was underneath. This long, open trench down the length of the room was a legacy from the previous inhabitants, who built the addition in the back of the house and had to open up the floors in order to run plumbing fixtures and stuff. Bloody vandals.
The verdict from the Floor Guy is that the floors in the front bedrooms and hallway can be saved, but the living room floor is toast, and we'll need a new one. Fine by us... as long as I never have to lay eyes on that carpeting again.
Oh, and as you can see in the bottom right inset picture, we now have a crawlspace! Lots of support beams had to be replaced and they're currently using bottle jacks (or really sturdy beer bottles, it's hard to tell) to lift the floors while they replace the piers.
